In a video made public on 14 January 2015, Vengeance for the Prophet: Message Regarding the Blessed Battle of Paris, Nasser bin Ali al-Ansi, one of the leaders of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), has claimed responsibility for the carnage at Charlie Hebdo on 7 January. The Kouachi brothers are congratulated as “heroes” who acted on behalf of Al Qaeda. Interestingly, however, the video only contains publicly available material: even the pictures of the Kouachi brothers are those spread by French police. The video also praises Amedy Coulibaly, who killed a police woman as well as four people at a kosher supermarket, although Coulibaly pledged allegiance to the “Caliph” of the competing “Islamic State”. This website does not publish video material, and links to such propaganda videos are ephemeral. However, a transcript in English was also made available at the same time as the video: we make it available on this website. While it lacks the visual effect, it remains useful for documentary purposes such as ours. It can be read or downloaded below (compressed PDF, 114 Ko).
